Drivers Licence

Valid driver's licence A potential renter must present a valid driver's licence at the time of rental checkout. The licence is checked for validity by noting the following: - provincial (state) seal or stamp - expiration date - description of the renter - traffic violations - licence signature Erasures or corrections are not accepted unless authorized by issuing province or state. Restrictions- rental is prohibited to holder of driver's licence with daytime driving restrictions to opreate a vehicle for business purposes only. Driver's licences accepted by Avis: -a driver's licence issued by any province or territory in Canada -a driver's licence issued by any United States-territory or possession -a valid driver's licence issued by a country participating in the 1949 Geneva convention on road traffic or the 1943 convention on regulation of inter-American automobile traffic. -international driving permits serve only as a translation, and are valid only if presented in conjunction with an official driver's the issuing country.
  • -policy for acceptance of graduated driver's licence in Canada is as follows: -British Columbia: Class 5 -Nova Scotia: Class 5 -Newfoundland: Class 5 -New Brunswick: Class 7 (level 2 only) & Class 5 -Ontario: Class G and G2 - class G only: London, Sarnia, Windsor on
Graduated driver's licence is a system to integrate a newly licences person into the driving public. This is accomploished by gradually increasing the driving privileges during the novice driver's first two years on the road. It is not possible for Avis to monitor the correct use of the vehicle based on the stage the driver is in, so many customers must complete all of the stages in order to rent a vehicle. The first stage for new drivers could possible have the following restrictions: -may only drive at certain times of the day -may only drive on certain highways -may be required to have a licenced driver in the vehicle from 6 months to a year. -may be required to have a notice on their vehicles. Temporary licences: temporary licences, issued as a replacement to previously qualified drivers are acceptable for rentals. Temporary licecnes can be issued for rentals. Temporary licences can be issued for the following reasons: - a lost licence - change of the address (usually involving a change in province or country) A temporary licence will be checked for validity stamp or steal and expiration date. Temporary licences issued as a 'beginner's permit' for the purpose of learning to drive are not considered a valid form of licence and therefore, are not acceptable for the purpose of renting an Avis vehicle. Rentals to the non-licenced renter An individual who is unable to drive due to a disability, handicap, visual impairment, etc. may rent a car if the disabled person meets Avis standard qualification for personal and financial responsibility and is accompanied by a duly licences driver who is at least 25 years of age. The disabled customer will be the actual renter. The individual with the driver's licence will be the sole operator of the car for the duration of the rental. Both the renter and the driver must go to the counter at the time of rental. Rentals to disabled customers are exempt from any additional driver charges and the authorized driver is exempt from the additional driver's credit requirements. The renter is not required to show proof of disability and under no circumstances should the renter be asked to show proof of disability.
